I watched customer discovery change from both sides of the marketing relationship.
Ginny Witsman’s path from marketing, to local business ownership, and back to marketing.
Marketing was my first professional home.
I began in print media in the 1990s and moved into Yellow Pages advertising in the 2000s. I saw how local businesses depended on those publications to be found, and I also saw what happened when online search replaced them as the primary path to discovery.
When that transition changed the Yellow Pages business, I decided to leave marketing. I moved into insurance and have owned an insurance agency for more than ten years.
Then the results from paid search changed.
As an agency owner, I was also a marketing customer. I paid a marketing company to manage my search presence and spent approximately $2,100 each month on Google paid search.
When AI-generated summaries began changing how people searched, the paid-search activity reaching my agency fell to almost nothing. The change felt abrupt—less like a gradual decline and more like a faucet being turned off.
I needed to understand why. I began researching how AI-assisted discovery was changing the path between a customer’s question and the businesses presented in response.
I saw an important change receiving too little attention.
What I found did not look like a minor adjustment to the familiar search-marketing model. Customers could now receive a synthesized answer before visiting the websites, listings, and other sources used to form it.
Yet the marketing approaches I encountered were still largely centered on the older objective of earning a click. They did not adequately address the broader question: Is the public information about a business complete, consistent, current, and well supported enough for that business to be accurately understood? So I intensified my research and learning.
That brought me back to marketing—my first love—and became the reason I created Presence Plus Marketing.
Why Presence Plus is intentionally owner-led
I built Presence Plus for owners who should not have to coordinate a website vendor, listings, reviews, photography, social publishing, and continuing content as unrelated tasks. When those responsibilities are separated, important facts can drift and the owner is left trying to connect the work.
Clients work directly with me because this system depends on careful listening, verified facts, original local evidence, and ongoing accountability. Presence Plus does not pretend to be a large agency.
Owner-led does not mean improvised. The Presence Plus System is standardized, documented, and clearly bounded. The work follows a repeatable structure while the facts, photographs, questions, and content remain specific to each client.
What I believe the work should protect
Truth over volume: approved facts and meaningful explanations instead of invented claims or filler.
Ownership over lock-in: clients retain core accounts and have a documented offboarding path.
Evidence over performance: original photography, real reviews, and useful content rather than the appearance of activity.
Accountability over handoffs: one owner-led relationship instead of a series of departments.
Honest limits over guarantees: clear work without promises about systems and customer decisions no vendor can control.
